The Basque region, "the green garden" of Spain, is
on the north coast. It´s an industrial centre and a pillar
of the Spanish ecomony. It has the oldest known language in the
world, Euskera, whose origin is unknown.

The Basque Region is full of mountains, cliffs, the coast and
nature. The people are spiritually idealistic, hard workers, and
fighters, with a culture rich in tradition.
The cry of the Basque people is for peace, as evidenced by the
slogan which is on the front of each town´s city hall -
"Bakea Behar Dugu", which translated is "We Need
Peace".

Bilbao is the largest city in the Basque region.
The city´s showpiece is the Guggenheim Museum of Contemporary
Art, a twist-up of glass and titanium, whose design was
inspired by the anatomy of the fish and the hull of a boat.
